Nowadays, many countries worldwide are discussing the problems of complex evaluation and certification of buildings and built substance from the viewpoint of their environmental sustainability and provided quality of life. This is a special challenge that requires multidisciplinary and multi-criteria approach based on principles of democracy and sound professional knowledge. The architecture and urban structures have always been witnesses of individual epochs and documented the values of societies. As educated elites in democracies do not have at their disposal the power of enlightened rulers, each successful and environmentally sustainable building based on fair approval represents positive experience and progressive step towards better life of future generations and strengthens the feeling of responsibility for built environment.
The aim of this 6th International Conference is to deepen the discussion about problems of the ecological and social quality of the built environment, present visions, ideas and practical experience within the complexity of this topic. All contributions should deal with the problems of design, performance prediction and assessment of socially viable and environmentally friendly architecture and space planning. Highly appreciated are contributions that help to create the framework for better implementation of ecological and democratic principles into existing technical specifications, legislation and building practice.
This International Conference is supported by the Scientific Grant Agency of the Slovak Ministry of Education and the Slovak Academy of Sciences through the project No. 1/0647/09 and the Austrian Cultural Forum Bratislava (ÖKF/RKF) and jointly organized by the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava, the Slovak IBPSA branch and the Slovak Society for the Technique of Environment.
