Sustainable construction is a subset of the sustainable development movement, which has been evolving worldwide for more than two decades. The goal of sustainable construction is creating and operating a healthy built environment based on resource efficiency, social, ecological, and economic principles. These principles apply across the entire life cycle of a building.

The aim of this 8th International Buildings and Environment 2013 Conference (enviBUILD) on Healthy and Sustainable Built Environment is to bring together various existing or emerging research and training activities dealing with materials, building envelope systems, their design and the prediction of healthy, comfortable, and economically effective indoor environment, performance evaluation, etc. Highly appreciated are contributions that help to create the framework for better implementation of ecological principles into existing technical specifications, legislation and building practice.

The Conference topics are:
1. Indoor Environment and its Hygienic Aspects
2. Energy and Environmental Assessment of Sustainable Buildings
3. Nearly Zero Energy Buildings
4. Intelligent Buildings and Technologies
5. Effective Ventilation of Buildings
6. Renewable Materials and Energy Sources
7. Daylighting and Insolation
8. Building Acoustic
9. Building Simulation

Last year′s Buildings and Environment 2012 Conference was held in Brno, Czech Republic, and for the first time named enviBUILD.

This International Conference is sponsored by the Scientific Grant Agency of the Slovak Ministry of Education and the Slovak Academy of Sciences through the project No. 1/0320/12, by Slovak Research and Development Agency project APVV 0150-10, and Agency of the Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sport of the Slovak Republic for the Structural Funds of EU by project ITMS 26240220072.
