In Europe the building processes and the utilization of buildings are responsible for 40% of emissions of the greenhouse gases and one quarter of the total waste. The global trends of the civilization development require innovation in the attitude of the architects and engineers from the viewpoint of the content, criteria and methods of their activities. The complexity of their tasks requires the implementation of many legislative, educational, financial, technical and other measures on international, national, company and individual level. Highly interesting and open is the question of holistic evaluation and consideration of the building's ecological quality. Within the broad spectrum of interactive relations determining the building's ecological quality have energetic, hygienic and urban viewpoints an important role. The ecologically determined design and the renewal of the built environment assume high savings of energetic and material resources and minimizing the negative impact of the building activity and the use of buildings upon the environment. In the present an European method and indicators of the sustainable building are being developed. The aim of this 2nd international Conference is to deepen the discussion about problems of the ecological quality of the built environment and the exchange of ideas within the broadness and complexity of this topic. All contributions should deal with problems of the design and the prediction of healthy and comfortable indoor environment. Highly appreciated are contributions that help to create the framework for better implementation of ecological principles into existing technical specifications, legislation and building practice. This international Conference is sponsored by the Scientific Grant Agency of the Slovak Ministry of Education and the Slovak Academy of Sciences through the project no. 1/3324/06, the EC within its Marie Curie Scheme and organized in line with the activities of the Technical Committee 112 - Sustainable Building of the Slovak Standards Institute. Herewith we would like to cordially invite all professionals in the areas of building physics, HVAC, EIA, architects, engineers, designer, building managers, developers, investors and last but not least the representatives of the state and local administrations, science and research to attend this small, but fine event.
